Electronic Medical Records (EMR) can provide the physicians with integrated, exact data about patients and offer certain clue and advice; hold out the clinic decision-making, connect medical knowledge base and others. If you want to abstract some documents which according to definite conditions from large numbers of medical documents to analyze and summarize, (investigate the rules, such as the range of age and zone of the person who is sensitive certain disease.) searching from patient-records is a necessary way. The traditional EMR usually adopt the document way or half-structural way. These ways are not only difficult to store, but also have troubles in retrieve and statistic and so on. Especially the retrieval system needs to accurate words; its intelligent degree is low relatively, thus brings user lots of inconvenience and greatly weakens the efficiency. Consequently, it is important to set up a retrieval system which has some intelligence according to the characteristic of medical field.The design of structural EMR which based on eXtensible Markup Language (XML) resolves the structural problem of information at a great degree. Based on this, some artificial intelligence technique such as natural language understanding and so on has been used. We designed the module to collect XML documents, these are used to be the enough data source of the following retrieval; set up the retrieval system which has elementary intelligence, it can be used to synonymous and implicative retrieval according to the keywords which users input, replace the literal retrieval by concept retrieval; set index on tag in order to improve the speed of retrieval; during the construction of medical knowledge base, synonymous dictionary and implicative dictionary are set up, making use of the knowledge and according to inference strategy resolves the user's problems. We set up the knowledge base management system in order to manage knowledge base effectively and improve the veracity and efficiency of data retrieval.Fudan University Cancer Hospital is one of the famous academy hospitals of China. Because of the particularity of patients'source and disease, the process of cure is long-drawn, and there has higher demand of browsing and searching EMR. This research will import some advanced medical language processing technique, intelligent data retrieval strategy, and structural storage with XML. This has enhanced the function of data mining of EMR and brought helpful effect.
