As a traditional visual media, newspaper is closely related to our daily lives. It is playing an important role more and more in our social life. However, the media competition is fierce. How to attracts to readers and stand out from a large number of competitors. In addition to Newspaper enhance the news readability. The format and advertise design seems very important. The advertising is an important part of Newspaper. We can't ignore the advertising design when Newspaper format reform. However, the current level of advertising design variable, which has also affect the brand image of newspaper. They are whole when they appear on a page. Then they need innovation design together. The innovation can improve the image of newspaper. With the pace of life continues to quicken, readers also get into speed-reading. How to resist the information of the readability submerged in a large number of newspaper information? How to enhance the value and visual communication ability? Therefore, the research will become an unavoidable issue for designers.The first part extracted the format and advertising design research task through development of the media, especially under the economic crisis. Then put forward the simplicity is the modern design trends, and summarized the results of research on domestic and foreign current and dynamic state, finally expounded the significance and methods of this research. The second part, analysis of the methods and the rules of modern newspaper format and advertising design, proposed the unity principles of format and advertising design. The third part analyzed the influence of visual aesthetic on newspaper. The visual culture enjoyed the readers. From the aspects of format skills, visual language and visual expression, the operating mechanism research, combined with information visualization theory, summed up the latest developments and achievements of the modern newspaper. The fourth part, research to explore the design style of simplicity and the road to innovation, emphasizing simplicity easy-to-read is in line with the modern aesthetic requirements. It is also in line with people's visual physiology and psychology of visual patterns. The design trends is the perfect transformation from complex to simplicity, the entire thesis around the theme to discussion through particular case, demonstration of the simplicity style will be beneficial to readers and brands building.This thesis analyzed of style characteristics, the changes and the developments of the modern newspaper format and advertising design, and in the light of aesthetic, artistic design, visual culture, psychology and other professional theoretical knowledge and strive to develop the brand competitiveness of the modern newspaper.
