Integrated with modern wireless communication technology, micro-sensor technology and network technology, WSN has wide application foreground and became the current R& D hotspot at IT. Due to limitation of power supply for the nodes as well as the complexity of battery replacement, energy conservation becomes a key problem in WSN. One branch of WSN based on the ZigBee technology, with its advantage in low-power, low-cost and low-complexity, is being paid a high degree of attention to. Hence this paper introduces the research on energy efficiency technology for ZigBee-based Wireless Sensor Networks.Within this paper, we discussed WSN with a mainly focusing on energy efficiency technology. Firstly, beginning with a brief introduction of ZigBee technology, and a comparison of it with other wireless communication technologies, we proved that it is more suitable for WSN. Secondly we introduce the hardware design of low-power node of ZigBee-based WSN. Then, we explain the application of energy-saving technique-Dynamic Power Management (DPM) on our nodes. And we introduced an energy-saving algorithm of Adaptive Transmitting Power Control on nodes, together with results of simulation and analysis. Finally, based on the showing of the environment of energy consumption testing and critical debugging process on nodes, we tested those two energy-saving techniques separately on its real energy consumption and analyzed the results. At the end, there's a summary of this paper and what things need to be done in the near future.
