With the rapid development of Internet, the number of network equipments increases more. the using time of network equipments becomes longer. the link-speed of network equipments gets higher. All these factors make the Internet energy consuming status bad and would block its healthy and rapid development.In order to cope with this, a variety of energy-saving technologies and technical analysis have been put forward. There are many energy-saving method for the marginal equipment, such as Ethernet Proxy,ALR and PPC. At the same time, There are many energy-saving method for router and network protocol, such as the Power Awareness technology. These technology research and application have made a contribution to energy conservation.Parallel Packet Switch(PPS) is a hot technology which is try to resolve the contradiction between the router's high link-speed and memory bandwidth. Switch network play an important part in the structure of router and has a great impact on the overall power consumption. However, There is little study about its energy-saving improvement. This article first introduces a PPS structure which can guarantee QoS, analysis its possible energy-saving components, then, we propose dual-threshold link energy-saving technology.In our technology, we give the manner of how to dicide the threshold, as well as the way of opening or closing link. By way of analysis of manner, we gets the range of the threshold. In addition, we find a better way to maintain the coherence of buffer length when opening a new link.After careful analysis and argument, basing the ATM switch platform, we give the structure of multiplexer and demultiplexer in our energy-saving PPS. We make use of the length of specific FIFO to obtain traffic situation, and then make a decision control. Finally, we introduced the method to estimate the Power of FPGA chip, and make a reasonable analysis of energy-saving effect.
