With the development of power electronics technology, as well as higher standard requirement for power quality, harmonic suppression and reactive power compensation has got more attention. As a dynamic compensation equipment, active power filter has much more advantages than other compensation methods.After reading considerable amount of related literature ,we conclude the background, development and future prospect of active power filter, the princple on which the active power filter controller works is described in detail in the paper.The active power filter control system is made up of the man-machine interface and the controller below it. The paper mainly focuses on the hardware and software design of the man-machine interface.We adopt the embedded microprocessor—ARM, which has a powerful ability of handling matters and contains abundant of peripherals on chip as well.The man-machine interface not only offers users a friendly interface,for example, it's convenient for users to set parameters, monitor and administer active power filter on the spot, but also expand multiple communication mode, including CAN,RS232,USB and SD_Card, to meet different demands in data exchanging.In order to insure the reliablity of communication,optocoupler isolation is used in hardware circuit,and also a machanism to resend datas and check the burst error appeared in the transmission procedure is set up in software design.The lower controller communicate with man-machine interface in CAN mode.The lower controller has a responsbility to sample datas and settle the working process,and the man-manchine interface helps to transmit vairous commands of users realize communication between active power filter and outetr limit. Man-manchine interface lighten the burden on lower controller,so it is instrumental in improving performance of the active power filter.
