Optical Wireless Communication, is a promising technology through transmitting laser signals in the free space to realilze the bi-direction communication of voice, image and data between point-to-point, point-to-mulitipoint and multipoint-to-multipoint. Optical Wireless Communication has high bandwidth, no frenquency admission, low cost, strong antijamming, good transmission secrecy, simple installation, These merits make it as a popular option for mobile communication interconnecting, multi-user LAN extending, temporary data transmitting and out-space communication. is one of the methods that solve the problem of "The Last One Kilometer"in access network. Because of the fast development of laser components in the end of 90's, Optical Wireless Communication has become a useful technology for broadband access application, and its speed has already reached to 2.5Gbps. Optical Wireless Communication has a good transmitting effect in the distance less than 1km.In this dissertation, introduce simply the specialties of Optical Wireless Communication, application area and product actuality, and discuss the main factor has a great influence for Optical Wireless Communication system. A practical project has been put forward. In the emitting part, we described the research on the selection of laser device, the drive circuit of VCSEL and emitting antenna; while in the receiving part, we described the avalanche photo diode(APD) laser receiver detailedly, including the selection of photo electricity detector, preamplifier and main amplifier, and analyzed the noise charater with effects on the sensitivity of the receiver.Finally, The experiment with video simulated signal was tested in the laboratory. we analyzed and summarized the experiment result, put forward an innovative design, and pointed out some work to be improved in the future.
