A ring laser diode array (LDA) side pumped Nd:Glass laser amplifier system was discussed from theory, engineering and experiment. Theoretically, the calculation model of the laser amplifier was built and the energy conversion of the laser amplifier was analyzed. The gain characteristic at conventional and small signal condition was simulated by Matlab software. The design parameters and project of the ring laser diode array (LDA) side pumped Nd: Glass rod laser amplifier was designed on engineering. The power distributions of the pump light at different doping densities and pump distances was simulated by Matlab. The gain distribution of the designed amplifier was analyzed by ray tracing method. The best cooling temperature of the amplifier and the interstage delay time were fixed by experiment. The single-pass gain experiment of the laser amplifier was finished and achieved a six times single-pass gain when the initial energy was at microjoule level.
