With the development of globalization, the world has been turning into a whole entity. Crisis has been a challenge to every nation which has taken various forms from 9/11 terrorism in US to SARS, from bird flu all over the world to southern snowstorm calamity in China. With the advent of the network era, the growth of new media technology enalbes crisis to broadcast more rapidly and more popularly. Meanwhile, the effects and harm of crisis are also amplified greatly. As a result, it is a demanding problem has to be resolved concerning how to react to crisis in the network era.The existence of digital technology has pushed the"media's carnival"to a new peak , while the media's attribute as"the sword with double-blade"is becoming increasingly obvious. In the field of crisis communication, these"new media"are efficient weapons. At the same time, they are combustion-supporters for the solicitation and dispersion of the crisis.The article begins with a series of typical crisis happened recently, the discusses the new media's function of a"sword with double-blade", besides making analysis into the function in crisis communication. On the basis of the above, trying to establish a new crisis communication model.
