The Software Design Of HD IPTV Set-top Box

With the rapid development of the Internet and the streaming media technology, IPTV emerged as the convergence of Internet and traditional TV. Over broadband networks, IPTV provides home users a wide range of interactive services, including digital television. In foreign countries IPTV business has been gradually mature, and it has received a rapid development in mainland China.High-definition television (HDTV) compared with the current standard definition television programs, is better in image quality and it is more visual impact, can greatly increase the user' s identity for IPTV business, is the inevitable trend of IPTV business.In this background, through research and compare, we choose the high-definition IPTV set-top box as the thesis topic. We select ST7109 chip platform, try to develop a set-top box which supports a wide variety of functionality and video stardards.The article first researches the relevant background information of IPTV and the protocols and standards involved. Then it outlines the ST7109 development platform and its building process based on the hardware features, including the establishment of the host PC development environment, STLinux and its file system transplantation, Bootloader configuration and the configuration of NFS mode.The Software design is based on the STAPI modules, first we research the functions of main modules and the event communication module, and then analyse the software architecture of video player in accordance with the entire process sequence of the video receiving, video transmission, video decoding and video output modules, and achieve the set-top box media center based on XBMC.Now, this set-top box can support MPEG-2,H. 264 and VC-1 HD video playing using hardware decoding, and can support a wide variety of other audio and video stardards using software decoding. Besides, the set-top box media center can support many Entertaiments based on XBMC.
