With the rapid development internet technology and the online population, internet, the new medium, has become a part of our daily life. Because of its quick, timely, multimedia and global characteristics in information transmission, internet is drawing more and more audience who used to take the traditional media as their main channels for information. In order to survive in the competition with the new medium, traditional media began to step into the field of internet. One after another traditional media website has been constructed in the past ten years and now almost all of them have their own websites. However, we have found that only some of those websites can make profit, as in the US, while most of them are still in the red, as in China. Then, what makes those traditional media websites in the US profitable is worth studying so as to help ours go on a lucrative way.This paper tries, through comparison and analysis of the US and China's newspaper websites, to find out the different ways in management and marketing and raises some feasible suggestions for the improvement of China's traditional media websites. The paper includes the following parts:Part One deals with the background of the research, the significance of the topic, literature review and some definitions of terms.Part Two covers the history of China's internet development and the status quo of newspaper websites.Part Three analyzes the management and marketing of the major US newspaper websites.Part Four has a discussion on the strategies for the improvement of operation for China's newspaper websites.
