With a fast development of network technology and computer science, streaming media get a rapid popularization in their utilization. It has brought a great revolution in human production, life style and the ways of work. Also it has brought unprecedented opportunity and challenge for high vocational education. There are many vocational colleges start to establish their individualise VOD system that serve for teaching, library, campus VOD, study and other relative field, promote the network-based resource study and innovative education. So, this paper conducts research and design in view of VOD system based on P2P streaming media technology for the campus.This study analyzes relative technology of VOD system, such as streaming media, application layer multicast and peer to peer (P2P) technology, combined with the actual situation of higher vocational colleges, designs P2P-based VOD streaming media system on campus. In this paper, the design of an interactive web-based VOD systems use VOD multicast applications work and the video files adopt RMVB and WMV format. On the premise of analysis of the present situation on campus, this study detailed design to each functional module for campus'VOD system.This study focuses on the utilization of P2P streaming media technology, load balancing problems and network techniques, designs suitable VOD system for vocational college. Assort the various types of video resources in accordance with the type or classification of subjects, such as storage management, query browser, online play, and a collection of various information resources into one resource pool platform, do the research from utilization of video resources in the network transmission and the campus.
