Equipment maintenance is not only a critical factor in the success of manufacturing enterprises, but also of great significance in the sustainable development of the society. Upgrading the level of equipment maintenance will not only help enterprises achieve their business objectives, but also will promote the harmonious development of production, environment and the society.As maintenance knowledge management is an important issue of equipment maintenance field, representation and retrieval the maintenance knowledge effectively is the key link in this field. Taking the ontology research results used in knowledge management field for reference, ontology technology is introduced to the equipment maintenance knowledge representation and retrieval (EMKRR), and a further exploration of the methods of EMKRR based on ontology is made as well. The main works and achievements are summarized as follows:(1) By analyzing the structures and characteristics of equipment maintenance resource, as well as referring the ontology representation model of custom products, the equipment maintenance knowledge representation framework of three-layer model based on ontology is built. Based on the above framework, the method of equipment maintenance knowledge representation based on ontology is proposed. Then, taking the maintenance experience knowledge as a case, the realization process of this method is expounded. Finally, the OWL is used to unify express the equipment maintenance knowledge ontology, which realizes the semantic description of ontology.(2) According to the deficiency of traditional knowledge retrieval which based on keyword search technology, the model and structure of equipment maintenance knowledge retrieval based on ontology are designed. Moreover, on the basis of key research work on the matching algorithms for equipment maintenance knowledge, the method of MCO matching is designed by combination of strong and weak attribute matching and comprehensive matching.(3) Based on the theoretical research of ontology-based knowledge representation and retrieval methods, taking a petrochemical enterprise's group monitoring system as the application background, the MDSM is developed, which realizes the ontology-based representation and semantic-based retrieval of equipment maintenance knowledge. The MDSM verifies the validity of the proposed theory and method of EMKRR based on ontology.The research works in this thesis have proved that the ontological theory and methods used in the field of equipment maintenance and management is feasible and effective.
