For the realization of the forestry informatization and in order to improve the modernization of forestry,the State Forestry Department builds a "digital forest" concept.Namely,with the use of 3S and related computer technology,we can put up the real forestry status with digital forestry characteristics. Among them,the forest landscape visualization is an important part of the "digital forest".The forest landscape visualization is based on the forest research data and takes use of virtual reality and geographic information technology.The target is to obtain a realistic approximation of forestry scene stand with the simulation data.As a result we can provide decision and support to forestry researchers for the operation and management.In a narrow sense,the visualization of landscape can be divided into 2 parts--the trees' three-dimensional modeling and visualization of forest landscape simulation.This paper studies the technology of forest stand modeling and scene visualization,and also puts forward the use of the virtual scene visualization framework with scene graph management technology.The modeling of virtual scenes uses the MultiGen's Creator modeling software.In order to reduce the number of scene surfaces and to ensure the sense of reality,tree models are designed with OpenFlight tree-level structure.At the same time,we analyse Creator's modeling key technology and model's optimization techniques.The virtual forest scene visualization framework uses the open source graphics rendering engine OpenSceneGraph for scene's driving to achieve stand visualization,and provides a wide range of roaming control methods.Experiment results show that the virtual scene visualization framework can better simulate the forest scenes with great sense of reality.Finally,the paper raises prospect to further research of the landscape visualization technology.
