Virtual forestry technology has been widely used in agriculture,ecology research,landscape design,entertainment and many other fields,brings great economy and society benefit.With the improvement of computer software and hardware equipments and the progress of real-time computer graphics and scientific visualization technology, there are more and more requirement for the virtual scene scale,realistic effects and rendering rates in the virtual system.This thesis mainly focuses on forest scene modeling and visualization techniques to achieve wandering system which is composed of two components: modeling and wandering control. Commercial modeling software 3DS max is used for scene construction. To reduce the geometry scale and keep Realistic effects in virtual scene, trees are represented with polygon and texture. OSG is used for visualization, and implement several virtual scene wandering manners by operating mouse and keyboard. The virtual system also provides collision detection function. In construction of the system, several kinds of opertimization methods are considered to improve rendering rate. Experiment results prove that the wandering system can provide good rendering results.
