Social emergent events are usually adopted in news report.A great tumult, which happened in Lhasa,Tibet on 14th March,2008,attracted global attention immediately after its occurrence and many foreign media gave a mass of reports on it.However, some western main-stream media like CNN networks distorted the fact and misrepresented the incident, which violated news principle of authenticity. In fact,if we look into Chinese news reported by the United States in recent years,we can find that CNN's misrepresentation on 3·14 event is not an accident, the prejudice is rooted in various anti-China media for a long time. And it is in this event that witnesses the climax of "demonizing" China in recent years.Under this international background towards Lhasa's 3.14 event,it seems to be more realistic to analyze the differences between Chinese news and the US news.Taking Xinhuanet and CNN networks, the representative news media in both China and the US,as its example, this essay did a research on the basis of a series of news reports on Lhasa's 3·14 event made by the two media.By analyzing the relevant reports in March, the author processed text analysis and multidimensional comparison on the basis of classified statistic and quantitative research from the perspectives of news source, report focus and report stand. The result reveals that the relevant reports provided by Xinhuanet and CNN networks have great or even radical differences. In the second part, the author did a deep analysis on the reasons of this disparity, considering it is the deep-rooted reasons such as the differences existing in social historical culture, national political interests, news value orientation and stereotyped image made by western that cause this distinction. It is for these reasons that result in great differences in the nature of media, national interests etc.of China and the US.Media are serving the interests of countries, and China and the United States are not immune. The Western media Led by the United States has been demonizing China's national image as a stereotype, which is not conducive to China's international image and greatly undermine China's national interests. In external propaganda, therefore,we should pay attention to the techniques of dissemination, adopt a more appropriate and effective manner to master the right words of Journalism, guide the international public opinion, strongly increase the level of external reporting, and enhance the dissemination of results.
