In China, there is no regional brand or regional block like Wenzhou, which has been extremely sanctified and demonized. In this age of information, the public get access to information not only through written or oral language, but also through the more efficient mass media. People are increasingly relying on the mass media to understand the world beyond their own lives. Most people understand the world around them only through the media, and people's behavior is no longer a response to the objective environment and its changes, but a response to a certain "pseudo-environment", and thus pictures are formed in their minds. Although the image of Wenzhou is constructed not just by the media, the "pseudo-environment" created by the latter is undoubtedly the source through which the public gain the impression of Wenzhou. In the course of transforming the outside world into the pictures in people's mind through the media, do other people form a stereotyped image of Wenzhou group due to human perception and technical limitations? What information about Wenzhou people is there in the media? And how much is the information affecting the image construction of Wenzhou people? This paper selects "People's Daily" as the research sample to stress on the representation mode of Wenzhou through the medium of newspaper and the problems therein. The paper conducts both quantitative and qualitative analysis to test the sample and clarifies the characteristics and problems of relevant reports of the newspaper medium by using the means of "content analysis" of Communication to roughly sketch out the image of Wenzhou created by the newspaper medium. In addition, unlike other research models which are one-way content analyses of the media, this study explores the role of medium elements in the image construction of Wenzhou through sampling survey of communicatees and in-depth interviews of different people, and disproves the impacts of the image of Wenzhou created by the newspaper medium on communicatees'stereotyped image of Wenzhou by using the survey results of communicatees, thus avoiding conclusion deviations caused by one-way researches. This study is of undoubtedly great theoretical value and practical significance to provide basic scientific grounds for avoiding the formation of stereotyped image through the media and improving Wenzhou's media image, deepen people's understanding of the image of Wenzhou, and grasp the domestic society's mainstream attitude and understanding of Wenzhou, thus providing reference for enhancing the image of Wenzhou.
