As the rapid development of computer technology, MIDI-based virtual instruments have been booming and have also fundamentally changed the structure of traditional instruments. The progress of embedded technology and digital video technology brought the new opportunities for virtual instruments. Meanwhile, developing low-cost and compact new virtual instruments will make a great significance to further change human-computer interaction and to popularize and promote music. The thesis designed a portable and virtual instrument system with no-keyboard that based on video recognition. The system introduced a video-based human-computer interaction's method, used high-performance DSP chip TMS320DM6437 to substitute general computer, built system's hardware platform in line with both visual ,audio codec of TVP5146 and VS1003B and took DSP/BIOS embedded real-time operating system as software platform to adapt external device drivers and applications. Researching on visual instrument system could identify fingers' key-press movements in 26 regions of camera's vision field, correspondingly make 26 kinds of different tones and satisfy the need of playing non-complex music. In addition, the system could easily integrate into some devices, such as music equipments, musical teaching aids and intelligent toys, and has a broad application space.
