The rapid development of network provides us with a wealth of resources, information, brings the convenience to our lives, and provides fast, convenient way to numerous learners so that learning can be exempted from the restrictions of time and space. At the same time, with the continuous development of education information technology, educational resources in the Internet have grown in the way of index. Massive network educational resources have brought powerful service functions for education, as well as the new challenges for the construction, management and utilization of educational resources. In addition, the existence of a large number of heterogeneous educational resources in networks, have resulted in a wide range of educational resources can not be shared, and a lot of repeated development of educational resources. How to use a large number of distributed and disordered resources with various forms, different functions fully and effectively, eliminate islands of information, and improve the efficiency of query is a problem need to be solved. "Grid" concept, as well as the development of grid technology, makes large-scale resource sharing and collaborative work becomes a reality, provides an effective way in order to solve this problem. Metadata can provide convenience to users to discovery and identification resource; enhance the use degree of resources greatly. To manage and utilize a large number of educational resources effectively, effective management of metadata which describe the resource is the key. In this paper, grid and metadata technology are introduced, and how to achieve effective management of metadata of educational resources is studied.First of all, the paper has expatiated the current utilization of network educational resources, analyzed the current use problems of educational resources. Combined with the characteristics of grid technology, the paper has proposed the demand for the grid of educational resources, and introduced the current Research actuality of educational grid. Then the concept of metadata, such as roles and norms have been introduced, on the basis of these, the paper has used the RDF and XML approach to describe the educational resources related to the task by metadata. The Grid Metadata Management has been studied. A study focused on the MDS (Metadata Directory Service) has been done, and has made improvement on query performance of the MDS combined with associated semantic technologies. Finally, the grid-based educational resource metadata management system GERMMS has been designed and the functions of modules have been expatiated detailedly. GERMMS has actualized the capabilities of metadata registration, storage, query and management in a simulated grid environment. A simulated experiment about improved query performance of the MDS has been done. The experimental results show that the MDS based on semantic association query manner can improve efficiency of resource information query.
