After 8 years of development, Electronic Book (E-book) in china has been gradually accepted by the readers due to its particular advantages of accessibility and timeliness for teaching as well as scientific research compared with the paper-book. At the popular reading areas, E-book has also gradually become a trend.An accurate definition for E-book was given in the present thesis based on two basic concepts of electronic publishing and electronic publication. The development process and the characteristics of E-book were then overviewed. The value chain system of E -book publication has been constructed on the basis of the status quo of E -book publication and the value chain theory, which was proposed by a famous professor named Michael E.Porter in Business School of Harvard University. Besides several major value activities selectively analyzed, the competitive advantages of E-book publication and the essential way to obtain competitive advantage were also particularly discussed.The publishing house has lots of advantages to publish electronic books, including rich resource, low cost, and high effect. According to the analysis of the status quo of E-book publication, we came to a conclusion that it is essential for E-book publication to obtain competitive advantages by working with one heart and one mind, specifying the objectives, optimizing the management, and providing satisfactory services.E-book is the inevitable product that is promoted by information technology, digital technology, and network technology. The publication of electronic books will be the prime business for publishing company in the future. The electronic books market for personal consumption must be rapidly developed and the booming development of publishing industry can be expected with the further improvement of display technology, copyright protection, on-line electronic payment, and format standardization.
