With the explosive growth of the Internet, a lot of new multimedia communication applications on Internet rush. Streaming media is a continuous media transmit in real-time and streaming mode over the network. Streaming applications are related to computing technology, multimedia compression technology, high throughput storage technology, high-speed network technology, communication technology, etc. Streaming technology can be used in many fields, such as distance learning, telemedicine, VOD, living broadcast, video phone, video conference, e-commercial, multimedia advertising, real-time monitoring, etc.Real-time streaming media transmission needs a certain degree of QoS, include loss and delay requirements,etc. However, the current best-effort Internet does not offer any quality of service (QoS) guarantees to real-time multimedia. Because of the heterogeneity of network and the requirements of different users, network congestion and lack of bandwidth become the main bottlenecks of Internet streaming application. Using feasible compression technology and network transmission technology have become the hotspots of research on streaming media application. With these technologies people hope to get QoS of streaming service and make it fair with traditional Internet services.On the basis of the systemic summarize and introduction to generic principle of streaming system and adaptive transmission control, this dissertation mainly focuses on the following aspects of the research:1. Introduce the basic principle and the architecture of streaming transmission. Implement a basic streaming system on the web camera using DirectShow. The system used MPEG-4, G.723.1 codec, RTP stack etc.2. Detailed analysis of the adaptive control of streaming media transmission, including congestion control, quality adaptation, and error control.3. According to TFRC (TCP-friendly Rate Control) the standard agreement, proposed a new improvement algorithm based on the RTP agreement and the MPEG-4 code technology streaming media transmission control. And experiment the new algorithm and several old algorithms difference. The test result proved the improvement the new algorithm can get more bandwidth utility, less packet loss ratio and some fairness with TCP-flows.In this article final, make the summary to the full text, and elaborate the improvement direction.
