The universal material testing machine is a very important instrument for accurate measure that used for the control of raw material and the research of the ability of raw material. It can do pulling, pressing, bending and torsioning. It can measure many mechanical performances of various materials by different modes of loading. Nowadays, base on the variety of loading modes and the complexity of metrical process of metrical objects, how to measure and control by the different material and different modes of loading and ensure the speediness and veracity are the emphasis and difficulty to research the control system of universal material testing machine.The following are the major contents in the thesis:1. According to the principle and system's structure of universal material testing machine, the function of the machine and the scheme of the control system are analyzed. The controller of universal material testing machine is designed. The PWM technique is used to control the machine by different loading method.2. The mathematical model of each component is established. The mathematical model of the control system is built. The test shows that the model is accurate.3. A new two dimensions /three dimensions fuzzy adaptive PID controller is designed. The planar fuzzy PID control which use error and error change rate as the inputs of the fuzzy controller is used when the error is large. The three dimensions fuzzy PID controller which is use error and error change rate and the acceleration of error changes as the inputs of the fuzzy controller is used when the error is small. It takes the advantages of these two methods complementarily.According to the rules of material testing of ISO6892:1998(E) and GB/T 228-2002, MATLAB is used for simulate of the system model, and the experimental results of simulate prove that the proposed control algorithm can obtain satisfactory control effects.
