Ultra-wideband (UWB) is a new type of wireless communication technology. It has many advantages compares to the normal wireless communications, for example high transmission rate, low power consumption, good security, robustness to multipath and low cost. At present, UWB has become the best solution of wireless personal area networks (WPAN). Studying UWB technology, especially UWB base-band data processing, including framing and modulation, is of great significance.Combined with WPAN, the thesis carried out a research of UWB framing and modulation, proposed a new modulation for UWB called ambipolar pulse interval modulation (APIM) and designed the framing module and modulation module. Paper includes the following:(1) Based on the focus of analysis of the process of UWB framing, I gave detailed design on framing module, which includes CRC checksum module, scrambler module, convolution coding module, FIFO module, interleave module and state machine module. And CRC checksum contains 16-bit CRC checksum module and 32-bit checksum module, FIFO contains symmetric synchronous FIFO module and asymmetric synchronous FIFO module. I proposed the principle and function of every module in detail, and carried out design on them using VHDL hardware describe language.(2) I proposed a new modulation for UWB called APIM, and gave a detail construction of time-hopping APIM signals. Then an analysis, compared with several common pulse modulation, on the performance of APIM was done, which includes performance of bandwidth demand, bit error rate under the AWGN channel model and the reliable maximum communication distance.(3) I carried out the design of APIM modulation module, which can divides into 3 sub-modules called series-parallel conversion module, symbol bit generator module and data/pulse bit generator module. I proposed the principle and function of every module in detail, and carried out design on them using VHDL hardware describe language.Experimental results show that APIM has good application prospect for its advantages, and the framing module and APIM module have correct outputs.
