With the rapid progress of computer technology,communication technology and microelectronic technology, the research of embedded video acquisition and compression system has been one of the hot topics, which the people discuss. Most of the video acquistion and compression system bases on PC at present, using its powerful data processing capability and rich interface to acquire and compress video by the special video capture board.Although this system applies widespread and has powerful processing capability, it doesn't coincide with the growing trend of instruments towards smaller,low-power and portable as the big power, high costs and personal maintenance. Thus,it doesn't meet the demands on most occasions . In this case,designing an embedded video acquisition and compression system is of great reference value and directive significance with regard to promoting the instrumentation of video acquisition and compression system and the development of relevant industries.In this thesis, according to the development and practical application of video image technology, and the demands for video acquisition and compression system, a design scheme of embedded video acquisition and compression system is given by the detailed comparison of different shemes, and analyses and designs the important parts of hardware, such as: ARM control and transmission module, video acquisition module and compression module. The video acquisition module uses the Philips's programmable video chip SAA7113, which completes the A/D conversion of video signal,at the same time output YUV4:2:2 in PAL format digital video signal. The video compression module uses ADV202, which is made by American ANALOG DEVICES Inc to implement the JPEG2000 video compression coding. The compression data is stored in SDRAM temporarily, then is send to host computer by USB under the control of S3C44B0X.The software part that completes the functions including:initialization of each modules, the transplantation of theμCLinux OS and the construction of the file system, the operation and control of the USB device driver and related applications.At the end of the thesis, debugging and testing the entire video acquisition and compression system and acquiring the video image data are completed. Analysis and comparison of results demonstrates that the system normally operates,the acquire rate,the compression ratio and the image qualities all meet the requirements, which illustrates the correction and rationality of designing the embedded video acquisition and compression system and also lays a solid foundation for the intensive study.
