The working environment of Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) is not that good, so kinds of risk may be faced by an AUV when working in the deep sea. Then, it costs a lot to develop an AUV and also the data or the collection that attained by an AUV each time is valuable especially for a ROV which carries people, the safety of itself is much more important. It will be disastrous if the AUV is lost in the sea and, at the mean time, an expense of oceanic research and development. So it is extremely significant to explore the self-rescue system for AUV.At the background of developing the self-rescue equipment for Department of Military Equipments, which is one of the important project preview researched in the eleventh"Five-year Plan", this paper discusses and researches in several sides which are given below:1. The development of AUV of domestic and foreign status was discussed, as well as the importance and necessary of self-rescue system of AUV.2. The self-rescue system was analyzed and designed for its reliability. Especially the lowest power consumption design, the airproof design as well as the miniaturization design was discussed in the passage.3. The hardware and software has been devised. Then, frameworks of the self-rescue system with the architecture diagrams were presented. Furthermore, through the comparison of different MCU, a kind of low-power high-performance MCU, MSP430F149 is selected as the controller of the system.4. The software programming of the system was completed and tested.5. The system was debugging in the lab and the system cooperation experiment was completed in the weald.
