With the rapid development of information technology, the demands of information keep on increasing explosively. It makes the storage system more functional to manage all kinds of data because the traditional centralized storage solution does not satisfy their requirement in information society. Now the information storage has the trend of network and virtualization in the process of development. Especially RAID and iSCSI technology have more availability gradually that can integrates storage I/O with IP network and has an excellent advantage incomparably to other protocols. Therefore, the IP storage technology based on iSCSI protocol becomes a hot issue in storage technology research.Based on introducing RAID technology, comparing the feature of every RAID level and analyzing of the appliance and development, the author gives a RAID management software solution, which describes the architecture of software based on the iSCSI protocol, shows the module function in detail and expound how to realize this design.The realization of logical volume management and iSCSI protocol are the key point in the scheme. Through explaining the logical volume in architecture, the author analyses the process of physical volume mapped to logical volume using device mapper mechanism in Linux. Then, the iSCSI protocol is studied and the core concepts and function mechanism of iSCSI is clearly expounded. Furthermore, the iSCSI error recovery and security considerations are also analyzed. Based on these, an iSCSI target is designed and realized.The iSCSI system runs in Linux system environment and designs by means of hierarchal module, which assures the least of independent of physical devices. At last, we test three measures, the functionality, the performance and the reliability. And the testing results show some improving advice about system and goal to be done in the future.
