Passive location works without using electromagnetic wave emitting. It is an important issue in Electronic Warfare, for its characteristics of better concealment, positioning far and strong anti-jamming-power. As a supplement to the traditional locating systems, it has high potential in military area and is regarded increasingly in many countries.In this paper the analysis of passive location is engaged, concentrating on model building, principle and some typical algorithms. Basing on the practical use, the character and performance of direction of arrival method is specially studied, while a method to estimate the position of emitter based on probability distribution characteristics of bearing measurement errors is introduced. With Least Squares Method to get an initial position, a more precise result can be obtained by the information contained in the bearing measurements. Better results can be obtained by using this method without large-scale matrix operations. The simulation results show its effectiveness.The instrument for passive location's parameter is introduced at the end of the thesis. As examples, the methods and principles of bearing measurement and Instantaneous frequency measurement are discussed.
