Passive location of emitter source with longer range and better concealment has been widely used in electronic warfare and radio monitoring. In this paper,based on the development of multi-stations passive location system,the method,algorithm,accuracy and performance of location are studied. Then a numerical simulation with software is proposed. It is expected that the proposed theory and experience will play an important role in the design of passive location system.There are lots of methods for multi-station passive location,such as direction-finding(DF) location, time difference of arrival(TDOA) location, frequency difference of arrival(FDOA) location and DF/TDOA/FDOA combined location,etc. In this paper the basic principle is studied, and the equation are deduced. Also the error analysis of some location algorithm is discussed.For TDOA location algorithm, it is discussed that the relation of location error,TDOA error and configuration. While the best distribution station project for passive location system is introduced too. Some deep research on the application of TDOA have been done in project, including equipment composing,working principle and location flow,etc. Some realization methods of time difference measurement are proposed, and the location accuracy of system is validated through outfield experiments.
