The News Compiling Cases Analysis Of Newspapers' Report On Wenchuan Earthquakes

At 2:28pm on May 12^th in 2008,an unusual strong earthquake of a magnitude of 8.0 struck Wenchuan County in south China's Sichuan province.This earthquake,with its supreme power of devastating,ruined the area to the extreme and became the most difficult one for rescue work in Chinese history since the founding of the new republic.In the face of such a natural disaster,it is the responsibility and obligations of the news media to conduct faithful full-scale reports,provide timely information of accuracy in whole range without interruption,and lead proper public opinion while respecting and meeting the audience's need and right to know the fact.This paper is based on the news compiling cases analysis of newspapers' report on Wenchuan earthquakes.The source newspapers, published during 13^th in May and 12^th in June in 2008,are selected from People's Daily,China Youth Daily and Yangcheng Evening Post.Through the research work a conclusion is reached in macro of how our national media exhibited the Chinese national unity,how they built our external image by news report and gained the respect and understanding from the rest of the world.In micro,we come to know how different newspapers can better deal with news compiling of disastrous news content and make better use of their right with their unique styles.This paper contains three chapters.In the first chapter,an introduction is given on the cause of my research,and then the current research status is analyzed coupled with related literature review.I draw a conclusion from the present research work and point out its deficiencies,thus putting forward my own research framework,which focuses on the way it is carried out and the method it involves.Chapter two is a case study.A horizontal comparison is conducted between People's Daily,Yangcheng Evening Post and China Youth Daily. Before making a distinguish between them,I have observed the news content,report style,the quotation sources,note of articles,length of report and picture uses,etc.In Chapter three,based on the comparison result in chapter two,I use the agenda-setting theory to highlight the characteristics and modes of agenda-setting of different newspapers.Finally,some suggestions are given grounded on my conclusion.To sum up,an analysis of the news compiling of various newspapers enables us to find out the features of report on disaster by different papers and pinpoint the general principles so that some internal rules abstracted from it can provide reference for other newspapers,and subsequently strengthen their core competitiveness,which is also significant for the development of newspaper industry.
