A Study On Sports News Titles Based On Corpus

This paper takes the sports newspaper headlines as the object of study, and establish a corpus including news headlines of the space of a whole page which appeared on Titan Sports Weekly in January and August in 2007, SOCCER in January and July in 2007,China Sports in January and August. Then I conduct a comparative study on a great deal of real headlines through the way of corpus.I try to explore the characteristic of the news headlines of sports news in newspaper which used on words,sentences structure.The whole thesis can be divided into five parts.First,it mainly introduced the basis of the sports newspaper headline in the foreword.The headline is eyes of news,so importance of its is obvious.But as an important branch of news,the sports newspaper headlines not only have the commonness but also the particularity.In addition,compared with the television medium and the network medium, the sports newspaper headlines emphasize on how to choose and make the headline.Therefore,we should pay attention to the research and analysis in this circle.There are great quantities researching on News Communication circle and linguistics circle,which make important function on the development and criterion of the newspaper headlines.But it also exists shortage in the meantime,some research is lack of the basis of language and do not emphasis on the noumenon but only research on a position of hypotaxis, some results of those research is unilateral,and the singleness research way have no persuasion.Therefore,there is no literature of system research in the field of sports news composing.This text mainly adopts the research method of the Corpus and linguistics,so we built up a corpus which includes 8002 sports newspaper headlines.The analyzing and statistic of the corpus can act the newspaper headlines to qualitative analysis,depiction,in order to make the research become more scientific and exacter.According to establishment of corpus,we can investigate the language and syntax phenomenon of the sports newspaper headlines by the way of the analyzing and statistic of the Corpus.We deal with the practical investigation on the characteristic of the parts of speech and of the sentence patterns in news titles in the main body of this text.It mainly focuses on the syntax study of nouns, verbs,letter and number,and then discusses the parts of speech of the headlines in trope angle.We discover that the words of the sports newspaper headlines usually take war and knight errant color.
