A Discussion On Narration Characteristics Of On-camera Correspondents And Reporters In "News Probe"

Roland Bart mentioned that any materials were suitable for narrating. Besides literature, these materials included painting, movies, comic books, society sidelights and conversation. Narration carrier could be oral or written audio language, fixed or activity pictures, gesture and the combination of these materials. Television is another form of narration. However, as a form of TV narration, TV In-depth Report is more complex and more attractive. The CCTV"News Probe"program is the earliest sophisticated TV In-depth Report. In this paper, it takes"News Probe"program as an example and uses the narratology related concepts to analyze the narrative functions and the narrative stand provided by the On-camera correspondents and reporters.This paper is organized as follows. In Introduction, the research provenance, literature review and research purposes are introduced. Chapter 1 focuses on analyzing the"News Probe"program's main constitution and type of On-camera correspondents and reporters. It divides the On-camera correspondents and reporters into the investigating narrator, the detective narrator, the criticizing narrator, the guide narrator and the witness narrator. On-camera correspondents and reporters play different role in program which can highlight the narration, reveal the truth of news, and make the narration vividly.Then the narrative functions of On-camera correspondents and reporters have been analyzed in Chapter 2. Combined with the On-camera correspondents′and reporters′characteristics, their narrative functions can be divided into structure function, construction function, witness function, interpretation and evaluation function etc.. Hence, the relationship between the specific narrative role and the narrative function has been revealed.Chapter 3 further analyzes the stand of On-camera correspondents and reporters, observes the factors which prescribe and restrict On-camera correspondents′and reporters′ function, and associates the text and capacious context.The last part, the Conclusion, affirms On-camera correspondents′and reporters′role in narration, and points out that On-camera correspondents and reporters should do their utmost to reveal the truth.
