| China is a big country in the quantity of Journal as the total number of the Chinese periodicals had already reached 9468 categories and among them 5387 categories were scientific and technical journals until the end of April, 2007, which is only after America on the number. However, there were merely 229 kinds of English-version(not including ceased publications) among the scientific and technical journals, only occupying 4.25 percent. What's worse, the English-version of scientific and technical journals have little influence at home and abroad although they have been developing more than 110 years since the first academic English version of journal, named "Chinese Medical Missionary Journal ", was published in 1887 by China. Nevertheless, with the speeding of international centralization, the English-versionof scientific and technical journals, known as the bridge of international scientific communication, make a great difference for the progress of domestic science.There exist numerous problems in the domestic English-version of scientific and technical journals, nowadays, leading to a negative actuality. Domestic English-version journals can hardly be comparable with foreign periodicals whether from the point of economic benefit or social benefit. In order to enlarge their influence on the international academic and change the lagging situation that all the indexes of them are below the world's average level, therefore, the English-version of scientific and technical journals must be attached with much importance from every aspect. This essay mainly based on the analysis, investigation, and study on the seas of materials and at the same time by means of comparing not only the English version and Chinese version of the same domestic periodical but also the same kind periodical at home and abroad, puts forward the chief problems that exists and their solutions directly about the English version scientific and technical journals.This article is divided into four sections.The first mainly talks about the background and development of the Chinese English-version of scientific and technical journals. The English-version of scientific and technical journal is defined and its characteristics are shown. What's more, the passage clearly shows the developing process of the English version scientific and technical journals since the first one came up.The second section is concerned with the opportunities for progress and achievements of Chinese English version of scientific and technical journals. Based on the summarization of the opportunities at home and abroad that the journals are countering, it illustrates the phenomenon that the English version scientific and technical journals with Chinese characteristics grow rapidly while other quarterly English-version journals are still exploring developments.In the third part, the problems that domestic English version of scientific and technical journals exists are demonstrated. Samples are chosen and comparisons are made both between the English-version and Chinese-version of the same journal and between the same kind journal at home and abroad, and then a key conclusion is made.The last part states that the developing countermeasures to the problems mentioned above. As the vital part of the essay, solutions, in accordance with the problems that Chinese English-version journals exist, are brought up about how to make full use of journals so that they can play a effective role in economic communication and development, based on the investigation and study.
