Mass transit,as the mass rapid transport system,is playing a more and more important role in the whole city's passenger transportation.As an important part of mass transit,Passenger Information System(PIS) provides passengers with a variety of multimedia and information guidance through multimedia,which plays an important part in improving the public service quality of mass transit.Therefore,an urgent problem is facing us that how to manage multimedia resource effectively,how to implement the function of editing and publishing the increased multimedia resource and how to meet with the needs of smart and networked management of PIS.To solve these problems,this paper mainly focuses on several respects: including the description and management of the multimedia resource in PIS,editing and publishing of the multimedia programs in PIS,as well as the control issue about how the program is playing.The main work in this paper includes the following aspects:1.Multimedia resource description and management in PIS.In the light of multimedia resource's characteristics and management requirement,the metadata of multimedia resource in PIS is defined.Aider analyzing recent multimedia resource management scheme in PIS,we point out a problem that the management of multimedia resource in PIS under the data expanding conditicn is hard to do,and then propose a method to solve it which makes use of combining relational database and file system.What we proposed method that uses relational database to manage the multimedia resource metadata takes full advantage o(?) relational database's convenience and fast of managing formatting text data.In the same way,the method that uses the file system to store and manage the multimedia files takes full advantage of the file system's powerful function of managing multimedia files.2.Multimedia programs editing& publishing in PIS.Server-based & client-based multimedia programs editing and its merits and drawbacks are discussed in the paper.Then two problems are pointed out including transmission and synchronization of multimedia resource in the process of its publishing.With respect to programs editing problem,Web-based editing model of multimedia programs in PIS is designed.In terms of transmitting resource,multimedia resource transmission scheme in PIS is figured out by comparing the method under networked environment. As regards the synchronization of multimedia resource,synchronization model in PIS is designed.3.Play control command transmission protocol.To guarantee the effective transmission of the play control command,the application layer command transmission protocol based on TCP is designed in this paper.The representations of data under the networked environment is discussed,and the border of data under streaming transmission,the processing stream of command sending end and receiving end are defined.4.System implementation.Finally;the multimedia resource management,editing and publishing system in PIS are designed and implemented in the paper.Therefore, in the management of multimedia resource,the transaction operation of database and file system can be fulfilled,the consistency of multimedia resource can be guaranteed; and effective management of multimedia resource also can be achieved.The system offers the functions of editing multimedia programs and programming list to the users, supports packet release of several users,offers real-time operating information of mass transit by real-time monitoring serv(?)e,meets operating requirements of the mass transit.The results of research in this paper have been applied in demonstration project of Shanghai Metro,which can also be applied in other location where the information release is needed such as School and Hospital.
