English is referred to Global Language.To speak of English,learners always remember British English and American English.Australian English is an important variety of English.In its long process of Australian English form its own features in language especially in lexical aspect.However,this thesis focuses on the Australian news because news is the best way to reflect language change and the newest words.At the same time,the news lexical can embody the correctness of the usage of words for the authority of news.This thesis analyzes the lexical features of Australian news comprehensively and systematically on the basis of stylistics and lexicon theory.A corpus of(Australian News) of about 212,315 words was built.The corpus was based on the newspaper "The Australians" and "The Age".In order to analyze the lexical features of Australian news,two other corpora were also employed in the study, including two news corpora-LOB and BROWN.It means the comparison was made among the three corpora.The analysis was assisted by Wordsimth software and Foxpro program in managing word length,word class etc.Meanwhile,by manual work,some quality analysis such as abbreviation an borrowed words were investigated.It is hoped that the present investigation of the lexical features of Australian news will enhance the comprehension of lexical features of every English country and will shed light on the teaching of lexicon.
