Radar systems in the ships are often constructed in modules and distributed in network. The modularization and distributed network brings complexity to software design in such systems.To solve the problem, middleware is a good technology to use. By using middleware, the difference between system platforms will be eliminate and the system will be extensible, which will lead the system to be more suitable for the distributed network and be more modularity. Reports show that middleware has already applied in command and control systems in ships overseas. The navy also requires the application of middleware in ships recent years. In the Standard of Multifunction Control Table for Ships by the Navy, middleware is required definitely. In this specification, the middleware modules should be designed in uniform standard and specification, modules in the same class should be replaced by each other, and the middleware modules should be extensible. The research of this paper is just based on this specificationThe research of this paper is mainly in middleware design for the target tracking software in radar systems. The middleware adopted in the paper is CORBA, with the platform of TAO which is reputable open source software.First, to get the object in the target tracking software, several widely used typical target-track algorithm are briefly mentioned with some simulation results.Then, the design of the target tracking software using CORBA technology is particularized. The critical part of this paper is about the design of the IDL, and the primary part is the design of the server, with three problems: the transfer of the parameter, the lifecycle of the object and the real-time ability of the software. To solve these problems, analysis is made in detail.At the end of this paper, an experiment on the middleware designed by this paper is taken in single computer. The result shows that the real-time performance of the middleware can adapt to the basic requirements. The design is also useful for the middleware design of radar data processing.
