Implementation Of Streaming Media Client On IPTV Set-top Box

As a terminal of IPTV, IPTV set-top box includes real-time operating system, browser, streaming media players, application software of IPG client, etc. IPTV set-top box should have functions including webpage browsing, streaming media playing, interactive online game playing, making audio or video calls and so on. Streaming media playing is the major function of the IPTV set-top box. The content of this paper is from a project of IPTV set-top box, which is developed by Tianjin University and Tianjin Zhongtian Communication Equipment Co. The main work of this thesis is to achieve the streaming media playing function.The solution to this IPTV set-top box project is based on NXP's STB810 set-top box development platform. The platform uses the powerful PNX8550 chip as its core, and provides a number of peripheral interfaces. It meets the technical requirements of IPTV set-top boxes in terms of hardware. In terms of software, this platform also provides a number of standard hardware-related API functions, so that the process of software development doesn't need to care much about the hardware devices.This paper is started at a brief introduction of streaming media technology and streaming media transmission control protocol. Then RTP transport function of ASF stream has been realized on the set top box through the study of the structure of LiveMedia, the ASF file structure and its RTP transport strategy. And then, a media player has been implemented on the set top box though the analysis of media decoding and playing process of PNX8550.On the basis of previous chapter, we achieve the streaming media playing function. And test results show that the streaming media client meets the technical requirements of IPTV operators.
