With the rapid development in the area of communication technology and computer technology, digital video plays a more and more important role in information society. Image/Video transmission and processing have become hot focus of study in the field of industry and academe. ISO and ITU-T have put forward some advanced standards. Common people enjoy the convenience made by the popularization of these standards. The design of embedded video coding system on FPGA by reusing of IP has become an important way. Using IP Core during the development could make the main codes reusable and reduce the time consumption remarkably. While the development of Programmable Logic Device (such as FPGA etc.) and embedded development tools make real-time video compression and transportation possible. This paper firstly illustrates the basic of MPEG4, then analyses the performance and structure of Micro Blaze, and introduces an embedded development tool (EDK). Finally,a coding system of MPEG4 in FPGA is designed with embedded tools. The coding rate of this system is 25 frames per second under the resolution of 704×480. An initial analysis of the system has been made with satisfactory results.
