WCDMA system is a self-interference system, and the RAKE receiver is usually adopted in the system. But after the introduction of HSUPA technology with a high transmit power, the interference increased, and the RAKE receiver can not meet the performance requirements. So, it is essential to improve the RAKE arithmetic.Firstly, the RAKE receiver was described in this paper. The RAKE receiver has many advantages, but in the HSUPA environment, it expresses its demerit. So, the Enhanced-RAKE (i.e. E-RAKE) arithmetic is proposed, and its methods of interference reduction, dealing fingers as well as calculating the combining weight was deeply researched then, furthermore, its performance was analyzed, and on the base of those works, the implementation of E-RAKE receiver was deeply researched, and many optimizations on many detail arithmetic was given. At last, according to the simulation as well as the actual measurement, the E-RAKE receiver can suppress the interference and gets a good performance gain. Under the different channel conditions, when the throughput rate is the same, the ratio of Ec to No of the E-RAKE receiver required has a 0-3dB reduction, and the reduction is relative to the bit rate or the transmit power, the higher the throughput, the larger the reduction. The decrease of the required ratio of Ec to No means a larger system capacity as well as larger cell coverage.
