High resolution imaging sonar can obtain target image by using the underwater acoustic imaging technology. The display console is an important software, running on the system's host processor. It is in charge of controlling the movement of transmitter and receiver, completing post-processing of image data and displaying the image. It is important to study highly efficient software techniques that can be applied to the display console. This study is also serviceable to the development of the software alike.Firstly, the sonar's work principle is studied in this paper, introducing the algorithms of beamforming and the transformation between different coordinates. In order to improve the quality of image display, the image enhancement algorithm is also discussed, including point computing and the image smooth filtering algorithm; Secondly, the design of this display console and the ways to make each module work are elaborated in this paper. The interface of this display console is designed by using MFC and the image data is processed by using OpenGL. Considering the reliable communication, "Socket" technology is used to transmit and receive data on the network . At the same time, in the process of realization, the multithreading technology, the OpenGL double-buffer technology and the multiwindow rendering technology are introduced in this platform, which greatly improve the performance of the system. Finally, the display console is tested by simulation console and the real system. The results are analysed in this paper and different ways of realization are also compared and filtrated at the end of test. It is proved that the display software fulfills the predefined requirements.
