On the basis of a detailed analysis of the application of the frontstage and backstage of the existing HIS, together with its real operation of the system, this paper presents the following strategies to optimize the system: (1) the reconstruction of data tables—based on the operation of the database and the features of the HIS inquiry, we have added a redundancy column, a derivative column, a vertical-division table, a horizontal-division table, and a copy table in order to avoid the connections between tables and reduce the net-resource competition so that the inquiry speed is increased; (2) the addition of proper indexes—according to the operation mode of the HIS, inquiry indexes about the time, the amount of money and the shelf life are added to different data tables so as to increase the inquiry speed; (3) the creation of the storage procedure in the affairs such as the charges statistics of the outpatient department and the distribution of medicine; and (4) the use of DataStore in the program optimization to reduce the net-resource competition, and the addition of a trigger in the Superintendent Inquiry System to improve the system's inquiry performance and to avoid deadlock. This paper focuses on the optimization of the servers, database, T-SQL and program. The theory and strategies described in the paper have been applied to the HIS and the trial operation shows that an expected result has been obtained. What has been described in this paper can also be applied in optimizing other systems.
