E-learning is the latest achievement and reform of the traditional education model under the guidance of the modern thinking on education, and it possess a most attractive advantage that the sharing and reuse of educational resources. It is obvious that high-quality e-learning resources are the precondition to guarantee the e-learning effect. At present, the e-learning resources are mainly network-based e-learning courseware, so that higher requirements of courseware authoring systems are put forward. In order to enhance the efficiency and enthusiasm of teachers' production and learners' study to the fullest extent, whether can provide the visual editing and What You See Is What You Get (WYSIWYG) execution process, is considered as one of critical judgments of e-learning courseware authoring systems those are conformable to the e-learning development trend.According to the development status of e-learning and the practical needs of e-learning resource database construction, this thesis presents a design of the visual courseware authoring system based on WYSIWYG thinking which possess lots of advantages such as flexible operation and diversiform display, also discusses the design of all the main modules, especially focuses on the visual WYSIWYG editor, and also discusses the system's concrete implementation using Java language. Therefore, while discussing the system design and implementation, this thesis also discusses a mechanism of organization and performance of the e-learning courseware contents according to the e-learning standard CELTS and based on XML technologies, it's a opening and configurable data structure, so as to ensure that the courseware produced by this system are more interactive, better-shared and easy-searches.This paper presents a feasible standardized metadata storage system, specifically actively explore on courseware development, especially on the design and implementation of visual edition. This system achieves the integration of materials and production of courseware, have been extensive used in a number of e-learning academies and e-learning resources providers, effective saves courseware development costs, improves the e-learning quality and promotes the evolution of e-learning resources sharing.
