IEC 61499 is a international standard about the application of function blocks for distributed industrial-process measurement and control system (IPMCS). As a new industrial standard, IEC 61499 has defined a series of basic concepts and ideas about reusable and distributed IPMCS and provided stabile foundation for the development of industrial distributed control system. The control system based on IEC 61499 has abroad application foreground, represents the direction of new generation IPMCS.By now, there are still few articles focused on the basic research of IEC 61499 and IEC 61499 FB (function block). Faced the theory analysis and engineering application, this paper goes deep into researching concepts and ideas of IEC 61499 and IEC 61499 FB. It focuses on MMB (Micro Message Bus) FB (function block) and MMB control system which is developed by our lab based on IEC 61499, and assembly examples are given based on MMB FB. As can be seen from the examples, the design ideas of MMB FB standardize the project, industrial software design methods. The packaging of MMB FB (Control algorithm is packaged, only the standard interface exposures.), making developers who are not good at complex algorithm also can be very easy to understand and use. The reusability of MMB FB has realized the software reuse. To control a specific project, development realizing is no longer from the ground but based on the existing function blocks. Therefore, the development based on MMB FB is different from the traditional model, it changes from the development of application system to the integrated application system, has greatly improved the efficiency and accuracy of system design. MMB control system avoids the collapse of individual FB spreading to the entire system and improves the reliability of the system.Although MMB control system are not yet in full compliance with IEC 61499 standard at present, there are some deficiencies. MMB control system has opened up a practice of road which is based on function blocks design and development. It has very strong practical significance for the promotion and application of IEC 61499 standard. Finally this paper studies concrete realization and the shortcomings of PLC based on Siemens S7-300 PLC control system, and sums up development direction of PLC based on IEC 61499.
