Media Criticism, Status Quo And Thinking "Media Criticism" Column In Professional Journals As An Example

Imported from the West as a concept and philosophy, more than 10 years has passed when "media criticism" was formally put forward as an academic concept in 1995. During the period, on the one hand, the practice of media criticism has become increasingly active and prosperity, on the other hand, the theoretical study of media criticism has been paid more attention.Firstly, this paper reviews the development of the practice and theoretical research of media criticism in China. Secondly, the author selects 280 texts out of "media criticism" columns in three professional journals "News Journalists", "Press" and "Media Today" as samples, then analyzes the texts in "media criticism" columns with the quantitative and qualitative methods, such as the theme, the content level, the media type, the author, the standard, the method and the attitude. Finally, the author uses the convinced data and facts to synthesize and summarize the important issues of media criticism including the content, the main, the standard, the method and the stand in the practice. Then on the basis of the "media criticism" columns the paper gives a thought to explain the development of media criticism and points out the problems and shortcomings of it in certain social background of the times.
