Augmented Reality (AR), a new technology arising from the rapid development and actual application of Virtual Reality (VR) technology, focus on synthesizing the virtual object made by computer and the real scene in order to augment the real world. Considering outdoor AR's abroad research future, for exploring the realization of Outdoor applications with AR technology, this paper lay emphasis on the key technology of outdoor AR system -registration, and develop an outdoor AR system using for constructing three dimensional path.The topic research on the application of AR technology in outdoor environment and AR system in the field of Designing and Planning. According to the fundamental characteristics of Augmented Reality and the operation of the system theory, this thesis has analyzed the system functions and performance requirements, discussed the framework of the system, which included the hardware and the software configuration theory, expounded the related algorithms and the operation processes of the system, achieved the GUI design and a prototype, and finally made the experiment of the prototype and obtained the preliminary results. During the realization of the prototype, a triangulation-based registration method was proposed to reduce the computational complexity of virtual-real synthesis by constructing the triangulation on the main object of the real scene. By appointing one point in image or video frame, a viewing direction was defined through which we can get the approximate 3D coordinate by computing the intersection with the 3D triangulation. This method needs only one image to complete the computation of 3D information and synthesize the virtual object and the real scene. Finally verify the correctness of this new scheme.This thesis research on the registration of triangulation-based outdoor AR system and preliminarily realized a prototype system for constructing 3D path as a demonstration, which provides a new approach to the key technology of outdoor AR systems.
