Augmented Reality(AR) is a recent computer image processing technology, arising from the late of 1990s.AR is a technology which a computer-generated image is superimposed onto the user's vision of the real world, giving the user additional information generated from the computer model.Because of its advantage in virtual-real fusion, it has high applicable potential in the fields of industry, medical and etc. The purpose of this paper is to apply the Augmented Reality technology to the IGS field, so the surgery' view of the real world is enhanced. Our country is in the stating stage of the research in AR field. The main work of this paper is to develop a vision-based virtual-real registration experimental augmented reality system.According to the registration algorithm, considering the condition of our lab,a set of calibration and experimental templets are designed, and a series of registration experiments are carried out to calibrate and test the system. A relevant software is also developed.Through the experiments, the feasibility of the proposed registration algorithm is confirmed,it can make a perfectly registration of the virtual 3d model and the real scene. In the registration experiment,a semi-automatic method to search the mark points and a easy method of virsual-real fusion display is proposed to improve the registration precision. The paper discuss the stereovision, camera calibration, correction of distortion,virtual-real registration, fusion display, and the key issue is the registration problem. The realization steps including the datas and results are given in the paper to demonstrate the feasibility of the AR system that we have designed. The system we developed is just in the experimental phase due to some external factors,a lot of works should be done to carry it into practical use.
