Constructing A Information Commons(IC) Based On Project Management

Information Commons (referred to as IC), is the dynamics service model that can increase information literacy and promote research and study .It is user-centric, integrating many factors such as the space, information technology, information resources, equipment resources, human resources , services to a relatively seamless environment, providing users with one-stop services. IC first appeared in the American University Library in the early 1990s. Its original intent was to provide students with learning institutions of writing and programming. After expansion, it became an open service model that students form a good communication through digital information resources and staff with information. This new model of information services has now become the mainstream of American university library service models through more than a decade of development, and continuous enrichment of the content of its services. According to the survey report released by the United States Association for Research Libraries (ARL) in July 2004,it shows that its members in the museum space who carry out information commons have reached 30%.Currently, IC has become the new trend of the library profession development at home and abroad. Domestic and international libraries which have conditions all study this new services model, and some of them put it into practice successfully. However, whether foreign IC or domestic IC builds mostly step by step. IC implementation of physical space is divided into planning, design, construction and operation and so on. The construction of the IC step by step is sporadic case one by one, and is not systematic construction method. This paper presents a approach to building a IC.The full text includes five parts: first, introduction, introduced the research background and research study of the meaning and the status quo at home and abroad.
