The year of 2008 will be recorded in the history of Chinese museum .As it is the beginning of free time(free of admission to museums permanently). But it's also a beginning of a new relationship between public and museums. The curators have so many questions about them that some visitor studies are needed to make a complete understanding of the market, such as who they are, why they come, what they do and so on.And this thesis tries to take an active research on the visitors on the basis of the visitor survey of Henan Museum in November 2008, in pursuit of a new good relationship between museum and visitors.Chapter 1 makes a brief description of visitor study, introduces its concept and development in China. Some problems are also put forward here.Chapter 2 introduces the Henan Museum, a bibliography of visitor study here. And the visitor survey in 2008.Chapter 3 is the main body of this thesis. First the author gets some important data by a serial of statistical actions, such as frequency and the large number of students. Then some comparison is made to reveal the character of visitors after the museum being free to the public. The used survey here, surveys taken place in other museums and a demographic background of Zhengzhou city are contributed to this comparison.The author discovers some standing factors in the new relationship. And the factors, living place and time of visiting are investigated under a social and natural background. The author forms an opinion like this, the permanent exhibition of local museum should cater to the local people who will revisit it more than once. So some communication policy will make some changes. Besides, the author makes some pieces of further advice to the museum, including a successive survey, communication policy, etc.In the last chapter the author tells the light point and weakness of this article. And makes some suggestions to a more practical survey .Visitor study should be invited to bring us a better understanding of the market.
