Tibetan Issue and Beijing Olympics are the global media's great events. How the domestic and foreign media report them directly concerns the establishment of China's international image. The thesis compares different reporting at home and abroad on the two issues, and especially makes a text analysis of People's Daily and New York Times. The conclusion of the research is that: the media's reporting position is related to the property of the issue. Tibetan issue, as a political event, has an influence of ideology and nation's interest on the media's reporting, which makes the domestic and foreign media in the opposite reporting position. Beijing Olympics, as a culture event, on whose spirit the media at home and aboard make a consensus. Therefore, their reporting positions are similar. Moreover, the thesis tries to supplement the cause of the differences between domestic and foreign reporting on the two issues from perspectives of ideology, cultural tradition and media control. It also attempts to come up with some suggestions on the similar issue reporting in the future.
