On The Communication Features Of Cartoon In Publication Since The Open-door Reform In China

Based on the 1981 - 2007 of "The Cartoon Page" in Xinhua Digest the statistical analysis, this thesis explores the communication features of Chinese cartoon in publication since reform and opening up."Xinhua Digest" is known as a barometer of China's reform and opening up. As one of fixed columns of the digest, "The Cartoon Page" plays an important role. This thesis demonstrates the representation and research value of this text by statistical analysis of reprint sources and "triple gatekeeping model".This thesis takes the historical process of reform and opening up as a research background, and uses content analysis and close reading to explore the connotation. Through three groups, this thesis sums up the characteristics of the content, themes and communication function of cartoons in publication. In addition, the thesis also summarizes the culture of Chinese cartoons.The thesis is divided into five parts. Chapter I, "Xinhua Digest" and "the cartoon page," focuses on dominative position of "Xinhua Digest", and points out that the" the cartoon page " in the digest of the important status. Chapter II, the research value of "the cartoon page ", demonstrates its typical representation of Chinese cartoons in publication. Chapter III, "the cartoon page " and reform and opening up in the past thirty years in China, taking China's reform and opening up to the historical process as a research background, describes "the cartoon page " in the Chinese society as the social prism and as a small political public sphere. Chapter IV, comparison among cartoons in publication—"the cartoon page", "Comic Fans", "cartoon weekly", "New Yorker" cartoons, summarizes the contents, themes and characteristics of cartoons, then points out the communication function and advantages of Chinese cartoon in publication. Chapter V, "the cartoon page" and Chinese cartoon culture in publication, demonstrates cartoons as a mass art to promote social progress, and sums up the cultural characteristics of Chinese cartoons in publication.
