Nowerdays, the main drive of the reformation of HFC CATV networks is VOD based on DTV. Also, the broad band interconnection, VoIP, IPTV are about to be in emergency. Seeing from the HFC network refornation in China at present, the Optical transmission is no longer a problem. So the task now is to solve the data accessing in coaxial cable. That means, to bulid a return channel in cable becomes the key of the reformation of HFC CATV networks. There are some popular technologies such as Cable Modem, EOC, HomePNA, MOCA, WiFi over Cable and so on.Considering these background and fashion, THOMSON has researched and proposed a new data accessing technology in cable——ADoC. ADoC refers to WLAN IEEE802.11 protocol, and reforms the PHY modulation and the MAC technology to suit for the cable accessing. The hardware is mainly made of THOMSON's RF IC 6200A and WLAN control IC 5420B. Our work is to rewrite the firmware code of 5420B to fit the ADoC method.My work focuses on writing the driver of firmware in WLAN control IC 5420B in Linux, which is named MAX API. The MAX API is convenient for the other programmer to write upper application programme, in a long run, to realize the design and development of accessing device of ADoC. The main task of MAX API is to communicate with firmware in 5420B called WiLD MAC and complate the daily settings and updating needs, and to support API for upper application for other programmers. The principle of my driver is to send or receive data frames from 5420B by the pCap library functions in MAC, and write messages with certain format in frames to control 5420B. It is the base of ADoC technology.At last, I made a simulation user terminal network by several computers and THOMSON's AP device. Then I built a systerm performance testing platform to test the usability of my driver. After the test and other programmer's use, the driver is proved to be useful for upper applications. And the drive can be used to ordinary data receiving and sening part.
