Distributed Network Measurement Equipments are capable to effectively monitor network status and locate network faults, as well as provide precious analyzed data for improving the network performance; these equipments are playing crucial roles in the development of Internet. Unfortunately, domestic enterprises fail to provide any related products yet. This work introduces a distributed network measurement structure named DNMAIL which has excellent performance and great usability, along with convenient maintenance and great upgradability. This structure is very suitable for small and medium scale network analysis. Based on DNMAIL architecture, a prototype probe is devised, with the help of an Xscale processor and Embedded Linux Systems. The detailed approach of designing and key technique combined with hardware/software designing is also covered in this work.In order to improve performance of the network interface and decrease the dependability of processor, an approach of FPGA based MAC chip is introduced, which enables the feasibility of undertaking various measurement functions within a DNMAIL probe. The software architecture is scrutinized and a software update plan is schemed in this work, this could be helpful in satisfying the demand of diversifying measurement functions in the future.A tactic of clock synchronization is proposed after a research of the clock synchronization related traits of DNMAIL structure. This tactic involves with both the use of NTP and GPS. An implementation is elaborated in the end.
